Baguio for the Drinkers

During my four-year stay in Baguio City, I can say that night life in Baguio can be the best a person will ever experience.

Baguio City at night is breathtaking with all the flickering lights viewable when you're somewhere elevated. Go and enjoy stargazing, moon-gazing or meteor shower watching. These are all of course, possible when fog doesn't get in the view. If you are one adventurous soul, you can go out and experience what it's like to be in the cold Baguio streets at night. There are a lot of activities to choose from.

If you decided to go out early in the evening, you can check out the night market. Second hand clothes, bags, shoes and other thrifted stuff are sold in the stretch of Session and Harrison Roads. Night market, although illegal, is one of the attractions of the city.

Out on a date? Burnham Park never gets old for lovers. Go boating or just walking around the park while enjoying binatog or nilagang mais. No matter what time of the day, Burnham is a go-to for locals and tourists.

To those who are out for just plain food trip, SM Baguio is the easiest choice because as they claim, they got it all for you restaurants and bars you can find 'em there. If you know the city well, you can drive to other restaurants and cafes in the outskirts of Central Business District (CBD). These restos are almost always better.

One of the best things you can do in Baguio during nighttime is going out for drinks. Having a cold climate, Baguio is very suitable for drinking. Drinking spots all around the city make the night life very much alive.

In this time of crisis, it is undeniable that bar businesses still thrive. Every night, almost all of the bars around the CBD and its outskirts never ran out of customers. At night, when you happen to pass by Session Road or the nearby places, there is a big chance that you may bump into someone who is drunk.

If you have tried taking a walk anywhere around the city, you might have noticed that there is a bar in any point. You can actually choose where you want to go for drinks depending on your mood.

Nevada Square, Legarda Road and Session Road are the usual places for those who want to go drinking. Nevada is most popular among teen party-goers. Students are the main customers in most of the bars surrounding Nevada. Goin' out to spend their allowances, eh? Although most UP students (or at lest my circle of friends) usually hang out in bars along Engineer's Hill, South Drive and Military Cut-Off where drinks are more affordable and there is no entrance fee.

On the other hand, bars in Legarda usually host a variety of age brackets having more high end bars. It is also in here where you can catch live performances of local bands. Cactus bar usually has a band that plays and then spins dance music in between sets so people can just dance. Probably the most popular in Legarda is Padi's Point which is almost always crowded.

Session Road almost has everything. If you are looking for a bar where you can have undisturbed talk with friends over drinks, you can go to Rumours. There are also bars along Session where you can go for karaoke, or some LOLs (comedy bar). If you wanna go dancing, you can still find a place for that in Session Road.

Magsaysay Road and its nearby places is the lounge for hardcore adult drinkers, usually locals. Now, I will not suggest these places because it isn't really safe going around this part of the city at night, especially for those who are not used to the city. Truth is I just learned about this place one time while we were looking for some news for a school project. Naguillian Road, too, I was able to check out once or twice. The bars here offer a different kind of entertainment. ;)

Drinking is usually one way for people to unwind after work or after school or just to enjoy with friends. As we were always told by our elders, it is okay to drink. Just  let the alcohol go into the stomach not in the head.

So when in Baguio City, go out for a few drinks. Who knows, it could be your best night out ever. ;)
