Eats in Iloilo

March 27: Iloilo City

Upon arriving in Iloilo, we immediately went looking for a place to stay. By this time everyone was already hungry, but we decided to look for a place to put our things first before we head out for lunch. Jaja took us to Smallville but we found the rates in their hotel expensive so we checked out the nearby West Town Hotel which had more expensive rates. At dahil makapal kami, we used the hotel phone to call a Pension House Karen's friend suggested. They have cheaper rates but its location isn't convenient and we realized we would spend more on fares. We also checked out Iloilo Business Hotel just across the street and dude, we so wanted to occupy the penthouse at P10,000 promo price. Dahil sobrang kapal talaga, nag-Facebook pa muna kami sa lobby computers nila. The things you do when you're with friends. In the end, we settled for West Town Hotel because we're already famished. We took one family room and just asked for an extra bed, dahil backpackers lang kami. :p

Just strollin'. A herd of cows casually strolling around one of Iloilo's business centers. (Iloilo, 2011)
We had lunch at Ted's La Paz Batchoy which is just walking distance from the hotel. We're famished nobody took time to take a photo of their food. :p

After the late lunch, Jaja's cousins fetched us and we went for a road trip to Miag-ao.(Karen and Ces chose to stay at the hotel). Miag-ao was about an hour away. Most of us tried to take a nap, but I chose to stay awake most of the travel time to enjoy the scenery on the way. We went to Miag-ao Church and UP Visayas.

Miag-ao Church is one of the four baroque churches in the Philippines.

After the trip which was tiring, (I don't know, we didn't even drive, lol) we dropped by SM where my companions hoarded souvenir items and pasalubong from Biscocho Haus. We bought to-go dinner from Peri Todd's, another must-try when in Iloilo. Peri Todd's burgers are really huge (maybe 4 regular size burgers rolled into one). I bought a Grilled Cheese Burger with Bacon (P160), supposedly for myself, Karen and Ces, but when we got to the hotel, I realized that Ces doesn't eat red meat and Karen wasn't really hungry, (she just took a bite). So I was left to finish the big burger all by myself. I almost succeeded, save for maybe 5 more bites because my tongue was already sore.

In the evening, we went swimming in the hotel pool because we got free stubs. It was real quick because the pool area closes at 9 p.m. It's quite early so afterwards, we went to check out Iloilo's night life, tutal nasa Smallville kami, it's like the Metrowalk of Iloilo. We also finished drinking early because apparently, the bars close early on Sundays.

I tried to make the most out of the remaining hours before sun-up, and by that, I mean sleeping. At around 5 a.ma, the three of us (me, Karen and Ces) departed to the terminal for vehicles bound to Caticlan and the rest to the airport via the hotel shuttle.

And oh, happy birthday to me! (I started my birthday drinking and it ended up still with alcohol. Sounds like a good year ahead, no?
