What to Do in Baguio When it's Raining

Day 2

Being stranded in Baguio is definitely just fine. There are lots of things you can do even if the weather's bad. In our case, we went around the city around, and ate a lot!

Thanks to my fraternity and sorority siblings who woke me up at quarter past 6am with their noise while they were at the prime of their drunkenness. Another thing I love and hate about Baguio are the extremely cold mornings. I needed to leave asap to check if there are trips going to Sagada. But it turned out there was none. Of course, we were disappointed but what is another day in the city of Baguio, we thought. We sure hoped and prayed Halsema Highway would be cleared immediately and that there’d be trips the next day.

After getting our lazy asses off of bed, we went to town to look for a place to eat. Oh My Gulay was still closed so we went to the nearest ‘only in Baguio’ restaurant–Jack’s Rice. While eating, the sky brightened up so we went to Camp John Hay after eating. The ‘good weather’ was a faker for it began to rain again while we’re walking down Session Road, but we went to John Hay anyway.

Thanks to the rain though, I managed to take a quick nap while my friends were having coffee at the Filling Station. I was so drained as I only had 2 hours of sleep the night before. After the powernap, I felt energized so we went to our next destination (after some time of debating whether we should go or not, we even went to SM first before finally deciding to go for it)–the Diplomat Hotel ruins.

We had the place to ourselves. Although, we didn’t really have any ghostly experience while there.

From Diplomat, we went back to town, and checked out the Ukay-ukay shops in Bayanihan which we missed the day before because most shops were closed. I was able to buy a nice pair of boots this time.

I always knew my soulmate is in Baguio :p
It was almost dinner time when we got out of Bayanihan so we walked up to Session Road to see if Oh My Gulay has opened, but it wasn’t and it was only then that we noticed their announcement about their temporary closure and that they’ll be back by Tuesday. We went to Pizza Volante but it was packed. Rein suggested we try the restaurant down Session, the one that has pots displayed at their windows. He was referring to 456 and so we did. We just returned to Volante for desserts.

Day 3

On our third day in Baguio, we kept our hopes that there’ll be trips going to Sagada already. We checked out of the inn and went to Dangwa Terminal, only to be disappointed once again. Dispatchers at Lizardo Trans said a nine-kilometer part of the road to Sagada was washed out and that they aren’t sure when their operation shall resume.

I was saddened, big time. It felt like I was responsible for everything. We could’ve postponed the trip because we already learned about the storm before travelling. But we went anyway. To lighten things up, Emman suggested we’ll just spend the day roaming around the city or in La Trinidad because there’s much to see in Baguio and two of our pals were first-timers in the place. We discussed things over breakfast at Good Taste Restaurant.

We went back to Sta. Theresa Inn. Funny ’cause the owner didn’t even remember us when we re-appeared to check in for one more day. Because the weather hasn’t been any better, we did just exactly what we've done for the past days–watch TV. It actually became our bonding session–PBO, WipeOut and The Voice, plus food party, all the time. Solb, kahit di na lumabas!

Later in the afternoon, after siesta, I remembered checking out Casa Vallejo because it has been transformed and I haven’t had the chance to see it despite the fact that I’ve been to Baguio several times since last year. Diana and Emman joined me while the other three opted to stay in and will just meet us up for dinner. It wasn’t raining so we walked, stopped at UP Baguio to take pictures and then took the walkway to SM.

We were supposed to dine and drink at Pizza Volante but I suggested we go to Zola instead since we’re all famished after staying too long at Mt. Cloud. We would’ve dined at Hill Station but it’s expensive at paubos na ang pera namin and we still want to pursue the Sagada trip. :p
