The Power Meal of the Day

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When one wakes up in the morning, it is important to refuel the body with the energy it needs. According to Gail Frank, a dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, “Breakfast skippers often feel tired, restless or irritable in the morning.”

It is essential to fuel up your body for a day’s work. Investing on your body is investing for a more productive you. You can start the day with some cheese or fruits, which are both rich in glucose. Glucose is a main source of energy that is vital for our brain to function well. When the brain and the rest of your body organs function well, the more efficient you can be at work. Come to think of it. Isn’t it hard to come up with ideas with an empty stomach? When your brain does not seem to cooperate, work performance gets affected.

Breakfast can also help in managing weight. Skipping breakfast causes the tendency to over eat at lunch. Since the digestive system was not given a kick start, calories may not burn fully. However, if a person takes in a large breakfast meal, it is less likely for him to go after a heavy lunch. Hence, breakfast is also one way to lessen food intake for the rest of the meals over the day.

There is a lot of breakfast food to choose from –cereals, toasts, fruits, sandwiches, pancakes, fruit juices, bacon, eggs, etc– the very reason why many people love having breakfast. But reminder, you should always choose the healthy option.

Many people skip breakfast for various reasons, completely neglecting its importance. If you are not used to taking a meal early in the day, you should start changing your habits. Wake up early, prepare yourself a good breakfast and eat before going to work or school. In no time, you will discover how good it feels to fill your stomach in with good food before doing any chores.
