Baandam Museum: The Black House of Chiang Rai

After lunch, we went to Baandam Museum (Black Museum), which showcases artworks of artist Thailand national artist Thawan Duchanee. Entrance to the museum is 80 baht.


In Thai, 'baan' means home or house and 'dam' means black. TheBlack House features a collection of around 40 buildings of varying shapes and sizes dotted around a peaceful garden. Scattered in the compound are 40 black houses made of wood, concrete, glass, bricks, or terracotta in various styles and designs. These houses accommodates Thawan's collections of paintings, sculptures, animal bones, skins, horns, silver, gold and many other items from around the world. Several of the houses exhibit Lan Na and Southeast Asia architecture and art dating back to the Suvarhabhumi period. (From a leaflet distributed by the museum)


  

The museum showcases a lot of fantastic woodworks, and the artworks exudes darkness.



  


 



Bandaan is also a place where art meets nature.
