Selamat Datang di Indonesia!

Selamat datang di Indonesia! Welcome to Indonesia! I got that from the title of our module in Bahasa Indonesia 1. Never knew I'd be able to use that, for lack of creativity to think of another title for this post. 😁

I was in Jakarta for a few days for the ASEAN-EU Youth Forum. I've been to Yogyakarta, Indonesia last July for another work-related event, but it was my first time to be in the capital city of Jakarta. This megacity is bigger than Metro Manila but is less denser. The traffic situation is also bad but at least they got cleaner/nicer streets lined with plants and trees (at least in the route we took from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport to GranDhika Hotel).

The venue of the forum is at the ASEAN secretariat office in Jakarta because it was organized by the ASEAN Foundation, whom we were working with for the AFOSP.

While waiting for clearance to enter the ASEAN office, this cat went up to us.

The museum at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta houses artworks from artists from ASEAN countries. Since this year's chair is the Philippines, the centerpiece/highlighted artwork is "Dayak Burning" by Filipino artist Pacita Abad.

Indonesian food

MARI KITA MAKAN! Let's eat! We finally got to experience the streetfood in Indonesia! There was this place at Blok M which is a terminal during the day and turns into a foodhub at night and they serve a variety of good local food.

We wanted to try the streetfood when we were in Yogyakarta in July but we were discouraged by one of our senior colleagues kasi baka masira tiyan namin (at di na kami makapagtrabaho haha).

Bogor, Indonesia

For the field visit, we went to Sabisa Farm in Bogor, Indonesia. Sabisa Farm is a center for agriculture students to learn and practice various agriculture techniques and food production such as dragon fruit juice and chips. Click here to view more photos

From Sabisa Farm, we resumed the afternoon session at the Taiwan Technical Mission Agribusiness Development Center, which is surrounded by greeneries and a lake. You bet we spent every break by the lake. Click here for more photos
